This past week I was able to live out my Little House on the Prairie dream once again as Erin's 2nd grade class went out to the little schoolhouse at Fallasburg Park for pioneer day. They did school lessons that morning on slate tablets, and then the parents joined later on for a picnic lunch. Erin was able to borrow an adorable blue dress from friends of ours, and she used the bonnet from Claire's pilgrim costume. The previous week all the 2nd graders and their families had a pioneer night at school where the kids performed some pioneer songs and dances they learned in music class. They also presented their pioneer projects in front of all the kids and parents. Erin chose to make a covered wagon for her project. It turned out very cute and authentic looking...even with the sparkly Barbie horse. And with the exception of some strategically bent clothes hangers and a little bit of drilling, she did the project all by herself. Great job Erin!

Erin's covered wagon project and report. The duct tape on the yellow glitter saddle helped make it look a little more authentic.

Ah! Brings back memories! Looks like you had good weather. The year Kamryn had pioneer night we sat outside in a grey mist. :) Hope your summer's going well!
