A Trip to the ER (Almost)

Last night Jerry made our first and hopefully last trip to the ER which ended about a block away from the hospital. It all began around 5:30 pm with the Mahi Mahi we were having for dinner. I never expected Ben to like it, but he started wolfing it down. There were a few of those pin sized bones in there which I tried to pick out for him, but he swallowed one and it got caught in the back of his throat. Immediately he started grabbing behind his ear and crying. Through his tears he asked for a bandaid and "mommy kiss it better." After having Ben drink a bunch of water and still no relief I called the doctor who told me to head down to the ER. She said that hopefully the bone would dislodge before having to put the probe up through his nose and down his throat. So at about 6:15 pm Jerry took off with a crying Ben (Barbie bandaid on his neck because that's all we had) and headed downtown. I started crying and then both the girls started crying so it was really quite a mess. Jerry called me 15 minutes later a block away from the hospital with the report that Ben now appeared to be okay. Jerry's exact words were, "I had him perform a series of diagnostic tests....look up, look down, turn this way and that. I asked him five different ways if it still hurt and the answer has been no.....and he wants gum." Jerry decided to drive around for a short time just to be sure and then he and Ben were going to get ice cream. The girls were very relieved, and this morning Claire went over to Ben and gave him a kiss and hug goodbye before she headed off for school. That never happens! I am very thankful and relieved (as are the other two little mothers in this house) that it's all over.

Oh Ugh! How scary! Those situations are never fun. So glad it was remedied b/4 having to sit in an ER waiting room for 2 hours...poor guy.
Perhaps Jerry should consider an EMT position as a night job. LOL

Poor little Man!! THANK GOODNESS he's okay. I must also note we are all so lucky that we haven't had any "EMERGENCY'S" with our kids yet!! fish bones, who would have thought Ben would like fish.... Mason absolutely LOVES fish - strange is what I think too - he could eat a whole Salmon steak himself!!! Silly boys.... Glad Ben's fine - nice work Jerry! :)
