The Big Day!

My dad was here at 5:40 am so that I could leave with Claire and be at the hospital by 6 am for surgery at 7:30. Brutally early! Claire was given tiger pajamas to put on, and I got to sport a really attractive blue jumpsuit which I could have hidden an elephant in complete with booties and mesh cap. Time passed by rather quickly and before we knew it, we were both back in the operating room. Claire breathed in the cherry flavored gas and was out in about a minute. Forty five minutes later I joined her in recovery. She was a little upset for the first 1/2 hour and said her throat hurt. The nurse gave her some pain medication through her iv and that seemed to help. We were then brought to a patient room where we hung out for a couple of hours. The nurses monitored Claire's vitals every 20 minutes while we watched Leave it To Beaver and Little House on the Prairie. I could have sat all day and watched those shows (I have seen every Little House episode at least 3 times), but Claire told me she was ready to go home. We arrived home just before noon. Grandma, grandpa, Erin and Benjamin were all waiting for us. I set Claire up on the couch, and she watched Cinderella. Then she announced that she was hungry, so she ate some pudding and a popsicle and right now she is coloring at the counter asking her sister what she did at school today. Now I've heard days 1 and 2 can be really good, and then everything falls apart on the third day when the pain really starts manifesting itself. I'm hoping that is not the case with us. Thank you for all your prayers, and we ask for continued prayers that the healing process will go smoothly!
