Uncle John

While we were in Canada this weekend Jerry's uncle John passed away. I wanted to include the obituary because I thought it was so beautifully written and really spoke of Uncle John's character and his faith. We will miss him, but rejoice that he is no longer suffering and is home with his Savior.

Promoted to Glory from his home, in the arms of his loving wife, Alice. John won his courageous battle when the Lord took him Home on April 28, 2007, in his 69th year. He will always be loved by his wife of almost 46 years, Alice (nee Assies) and be deeply missed by his children Shari and John Van Groningen, Sylvia and Andrew Paulin and Sonya and Phil Demik. Dearest and most precious Pake to Britt, Justin, Tiana and Tyler VanGroningen, Megan Paulin and Philip, Ryan and Ally Demik. Dearly loved brother and brother-in-law to Joke and Sipke de Schiffert, Pat and the late Bill Kinkel, Claire and Bill Beldman and Harmene and Garry Sytsma. Special uncle to 14 nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Edjar and Sjoukje Bokma. John retired in 1999 from Union Gas after 42 years of faithful service. All through his life, John loved to travel, volunteer and spend hours in his worshop making special gifts for his family and friends. He truly enjoyed the little things in life and showed us how to be content in all circumstances. Even while facing cancer, Dad showed remarkable strength and dignity that came from his faith in God and his never ending love for his family. Although we will sorely miss our husband, dad and pake in every way imaginable, we rejoice in the knowledge that he is with his Lord and Saviour. Visitation will be at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, 95 Oak St., Simcoe on Monday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate John's life will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel CRC. Interment Knox Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Jarvis. In lieu of flowers for the family, please consider a donation to World Wide Christian Schools, CRWRC or Wycliffe Bible Translators, all charities close to John's heart. Friends are invited to send condolences to the family at http://www.cooperfuneralhome.ca/. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Cooper Funeral Home, Jarvis (519) 587-4414

Psalm 23 V:6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
